about the department

1- Introduction to the Department:

     Arabic department was established after the College of Education in Al Kharj establishment. In the year 1403H, a decision was made to open an intermediate college in Al Kharj. The objective of the college is to prepare teachers for elementary school and to develop the abilities of the acting teacher.

On the year 1414H, Minister of Female Education decided to develop the college to be Education College with four years study system, which grants bachelor degree. Arabic Department was one of the active department.

Furthermore, the college went through development stages in its university system, which was concluded by its affiliation to Prince Sattam bin Abdul Aziz University. PSAU is a pioneer university in development and strategic planning of educational systems through leading projects and programs.  

Arabic department is one of the most important departments in the college. Its importance came from it role preserving the Quran language and providing the community with qualified Arabic teachers.

The department keeping-up the education development in PSAU. It provides a program that adopts the level system. It grants bachelor degree in Education/ Arabic Major. Students must successfully pass 136 accredited hours, which they are do not include major course. Students study linguistic, syntactic and morphological sciences, besides the educational sciences courses.

In addition, the department includes more than 20 members from variant scientific degrees (Professors, Associated Professors, Assistant Professors, Teaching Assistants and lecturers). It admits more than 100 students yearly. The department also have grantees, who are finishing their postgraduate in other universities

One of the department’s pride sources is forming morphological and syntactic association that has vision and activities. Our language is our identity and we seek to maintain it. Therefore, the department supervise this association, besides college’s Literary Club.

Praise be to God, who created man and taught him, and sent down the Qur’an in a clear Arabic language, and may blessings and peace be upon the most honorable of the prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions.. And after

   Our wise state, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has paid great attention to raising the status of the Arabic language to preserve the language of the Qur’an, and the state’s identity and culture. It enacted laws that preserved its status and prestige and paid great attention to opening departments of Arabic language and literature at the beginning of the establishment of its universities.

Today, the department includes an elite group of distinguished, experienced and competent faculty members of both genders. Their number - at its main headquarters and its branches - is estimated at 117 members at various academic ranks.

The department took upon itself to prepare specialized cadres in the sciences of the Arabic language and its literature, and to prepare male and female researchers in the linguistic and literary fields. It offers three distinct academic programs: The bachelor’s program in Arabic language sciences and literature, the master’s program in Arabic language sciences and literature, and a preparatory program for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, which was recently established in the year 1439 AH, and includes a number of students of multiple nationalities. It also provides all university departments of various specializations with Arabic language courses. The department is keen to provide support and facilitation to its members and students. To enrich the academic environment with renewable scientific research.

It also organizes cultural activities and events at the university level, which aim to strengthen the Arab identity in the hearts of its students, such as: International Arabic Language Day, World Book Day, linguistic and literary competitions, and scientific and cultural seminars. The department also pays attention to community service. Its members participate in many community activities aimed at spreading literary and linguistic culture among members of society.

3- Vission, Mission and Objectives:

:Vision

Excellence achievement in teaching Arabic. Preparing Arabic teachers in a motivating research environment, besides active community participation.

Message:

Teaching Arabic and preparing remarkable teachers for it and for its sciences. That would be achieved through high standard scientific environment and modern curriculums that serve the community and enhance the belonging to the language of the Quran.     

Objectives:

1- Deeping the concept of Arabic identity in the students and linking it to the Quran.

2- Preparing Arabic Teachers, who are able to compete locally and regionally.

3- Teaching Arabic according to the scientific basics and in high quality manner.

4- Encouraging the students to achieve excellence in Arabic and training them on developing their skills in it.

5- Encouraging research, publication and investigation in Arabic language field.

6- Preparing language programs and executing them according to the university’s regulations.

7- Contributing in the continuous education through courses addressed to the community’s sectors.

8- Communicating with the same institutions, colleges and entities of the world to benefit of their experience in the major field.

9- Assuring the quality and development of the department’s programs and activities to obtain the community's trust in its outputs.
