Program Message and objectives

Program Message:

Develop qualified scientific, professional and research cadres capable of providing high-quality services to enable deaf and hearing-impaired individuals to learn effectively, and integrate into society while providing awareness-raising and educational services to deaf and hearing-impaired families.

Program objectives:

The Program objectives are formulated clearly, and they must be objective and measurable objectives, and they should be shown through the academic courses and the thesis or research project, and they should achieve the following:

  • Preparing national cadres specialized in educating the deaf and Hearing Impaired, to improve their level, and to provide them with daily and social life skills.
  • Qualify the Alumni' ability to conduct, understand and evaluate scientific research and studies in the field of deaf education and benefit from their results in making appropriate therapeutic and educational decisions.
  • Contribute to the development and development of educational services provided to deaf and Hearing Impaired students.
  • Contribute to providing graduates with the latest teaching strategies and skills in the field of the deaf and Hearing Impaired.
  • Providing society with Alumni who are able to communicate and manage effectively as leaders and officials who seek development by taking advantage of modern technology.
Programme's importance and community need

The importance of establishing a graduate program in special education, the course of studies and education of the deaf, can be summarized as follows:

• This program contributes to improving the skills and abilities of teachers of deaf and hard of hearing students who are on the job.

• The program focuses on developing the abilities and skills of teachers of deaf and hard-of-hearing students to teach reading skills, which is one of the most important educational problems that this category of students suffer from.

• The program focuses on developing and acquiring qualitative and research skills in the field of sign language and sign language interpretation.

• The program focuses on theories and modern trends in the field of studies and education of the deaf.

• The lack of such qualitative courses offered in this program compared to the master's programs currently offered at the level of universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Arab universities, noting that this specialization is offered at the level of prestigious universities in Western countries, such as Gallaudet University, Lamar University, Ballstate University, and California State University.

• The distinction and uniqueness of this track, in form and content, compared to the tracks offered in our Arab world. In addition to the excellence of its courses, there is no postgraduate program in the Arab world that bears the same name as this program.

• The availability of a cadre of faculty members who are currently present, and there are also a large number of scholarship students, most of whom are about to graduate, and this confirms the ability to develop a distinguished master's program at the level of the Arab world.

• The Faculty of Education is keen to play its role in serving the community in an integrated manner by providing distinguished researchers in the qualitative disciplines that society needs in the field of special education in the Kingdom.

• Saudi universities tend to accept students with disabilities in programs of their own at the diploma and bachelor's levels, such as programs for the deaf at both King Saud University and the Arab Open University, which confirms the universities' need for such specialization.

• The ministry and the universities are directing to reduce the number of graduate students in a bachelor's degree in special education and to increase the number of admissions to postgraduate programs.

Program Alumni Characteristics

Program Alumni Characteristics:

  • Possesses knowledge of basic concepts and theories in the field of deaf education.
